Elaheh Hatami’s Dance Archive in Exile

What should a dance archive look like for dance artists who face extensive dance bans in their home country? Elaheh Hatami’s weblog “Dance Archive in Exile” serves as a platform for documenting and reflecting on the contemporary dance scene in Iran and the work of Iranian dancers both within the country and in the diaspora. Political, social, and cultural restrictions have led to the invisibility of dance in Iran, while artists in exile face security challenges, limited visibility, and experiences of Othering.
This project engages with dancers based in Iran and Europe, particularly in German-speaking countries, to explore the role of documentation and archiving. Through interviews, artists discuss their artistic practices, the challenges they face, and their perspectives on creating a dance archive.

Review of the book “Times of Change: Artistic Perspectives and Cultural Crossings in Nineteenth-Century Dance”
Dance Chronicle recently published a review by Lynn Matluck Brooks of the anthology Times of Change: Artistic Perspectives and Cultural Crossings in Nineteenth-Century Dance (https://www.pirettieditore.com/product-page/times-of-change). The publication presents the results of the international scientific conference Times for Change, which took place in Salzburg in 2019 in cooperation with partners from Italy (AIRDanza) and France (Association Chercheurs en Danse). The focus of the conference was on transcultural interconnections in the context of 19th-century European dance, which were examined by scholars from Europe and the United States using a variety of methodological, analytical and interpretative approaches.
The editors are delighted with the positive feedback!

Issue 10 Dance And Writing: Artefacts, Hypertexts – and Nijinsky
